Review of 2008 Halifax shows

DRUM! I wasn’t really looking forward to seeing DRUM!, the Nova Scotian-born musical spectacle that is promoted as an original blend of the rhythmic flavours of the Aboriginal, Black, Celtic and Acadian cultures. I’m just not a fan of musical reviews and I’m definitely not a step-dancing, toe-tapping kind of girl. But let me tell you, this show has me clapping and tapping and on my feet applauding. What could have been a cheesy tip of the hat to four cultures ended up being amazingly candid look at the history of this province. The performers are a multi-talented bunch, the costumes changes are frequent and eye-catching, the choreography is vibrant and seamless and the music is inspiring, uplifting and haunting. Of special note are the dynamic duo of Jeremiah Sparks and Dutch Robinson, who infuse the show with the energy of a gospel revival.
